Rosedale Bowls Club NewsThis year's Rosedale Bowls Club men's tour took place over the weekend of 14th, 15th & 16th of August, with hot sunny weather on all three days. 24 players travelled to Hampshire in customary style in a luxury coach and we stayed the two nights in a Premier Inn Hotel in Ringwood. We received very warm and friendly welcomes at all the clubs we visited.
On the Friday afternoon we enjoyed a nice lunch, and then a friendly match with a 6 rinks game at New Milton Bowls Club. There followed a jovial time in the bar with the usual friendly exchange of speeches and stories - the scores were of minor importance. On the Saturday we played two games. In the morning we played at Parkside Bowls Club and then travelled to Waterside Bowls club where we enjoyed a lunch before playing a six ring game - reduced to 15 ends because of the very hot weather. Again, speeches and presentations took place in the bars after each game.
We left our hotel on the Sunday morning and travelled to Lymington, ready for our afternoon game with Lymington Bowls Club. After some time walking around the picturesque Lymington, we received a very warm welcome and played a well-matched game before enjoying a lovely meal and high spirits in the clubhouse. As usual, we had winning and losing rinks and as is tradition, the players on the worst losing rinks in each game had the pleasure of wearing our special hats (see photos). We also had several wrong biases over the weekend and the culprit was required to read out certificates in front of everyone during the after-game speeches. The top shot this year was guest player Tony Eldridge, amassing the most points over the four games.
During our journey home we were reminded of our numerous misdemeanors by tour organiser and fines master John Bishop, and fined accordingly, raising funds for charity. It was generally agreed that this was once again a very successful and enjoyable tour.
