Centenary Event - Tuesday 20th June 2023

We held one of the headline events of our Centenary Year Programme on Tuesday 20th June with a visit from the Bowls England Team. This is a team comprising bowlers from many counties, in our case from 17 in total, with some driving from as far as Gloucester.

Early Tuesday morning saw thunder and torrential rain, but the bowling gods were looking down upon us, and it dried up in time for our 2pm start. To begin, we started with a "Spider" and raised £48 for MacMillan's. For the match, all six rinks were used, so we had 24 bowlers from each side playing 21 ends straight through, without interruption.

Rosedale lost by 4 rinks to 1, with one rink drawn, but what a fantastic afternoon it was, and one that we will remember for a very long time. This was what bowls is all about, lots of fun and banter, new friendships and some healthy competition. An event witnessed by lots of club members and family and friends, some playing and some as spectators.

After some early refreshments, everyone adjourned to the main club hall for our celebratory dinner followed by thankyou speeches by Club President John Bishop, and responses by Bowls England President Deepak Tanna. As always, the evening ended with the obligatory raffle, with some great prizes, followed by a thank you to everyone involved in organising this special event. Also, a final big thankyou to all our guests from Bowls Evening for joining us to celebrate our Centenary Year.
